A Letter For The New Seekers

Written September 14, 2025

I wrote the following letter for my friend Chris after he opened the Bible and prayed for the first time following Charlie Kirk's passing. While this letter is personal to Chris, it's also for anyone just starting their journey toward Truth in Christ.

Chris,

When you told me you opened the Bible for the first time in years and prayed earnestly for the first time ever, I couldn’t help but smile.

You then asked me "Where do I start?" and while I've sent you some of my writings about why I believe what I believe, and how I’m enacting my faith day to day, I also wanted to write this letter to you priming you for the journey ahead.

I first want to say, brother, that the journey you’re standing at the threshold of, is beautiful.

But I won't lie to you—it starts off unsettling. Really unsettling.

You're going to realize that the core “truths” about who you are and what this is all about that you were taught in school and in our popular culture is false, and has been working against your wellbeing, both in this life and what comes after.

That realization might make you angry.

It should.

But here's the other side of that same coin: you're awakening to a greater understanding of reality itself. You're discovering that evil is real—and it operates in realms we can't see. There are angels in battle and demons fighting it out. And the results of those battles over our souls is why terrible things happen.

On the notes of this spiritual realm, know that over time, you will have actual conversations with God. And that the Holy Spirit will be your comforter and guide if you choose to embrace him as a friend.

You will also be a target of evil spirits—usually not cartoonishly evil ones, but mostly spirits of jealousy, anxiety, malice, lust, greed, and pride.

Part of why we’ve gotten to this sunken place as a society where evil is so prevalent is that our schools don’t even acknowledge evil; they don’t even acknowledge that demons and demonic possession are real. And if you can’t talk about evil properly, you can’t wage war against it properly.

Another truth to grapple with is that you are fallen. That you are a sinner. That’s a rough thing to realize about yourself.

You are a good guy, Chris. But you’re also very prone to not being a good guy (like all of us). And if you can’t acknowledge that our default state is a state of sin and disconnection from God, you will never be able to rectify that.

Recognition of your own sinful nature will over time create an overwhelming sense of gratitude that God sent His only begotten Son to forgive you of your sins. What a beautiful gift. That's the best way to think of life—as a gift. Our condition as children of God means we can be redeemed by walking with Christ and be one with God when our time in this current realm ends.

It can seem too hard to believe there's a God who sent His Son to be crucified and resurrected, who will come back someday (maybe soon). But it's an even greater leap of faith to believe we're just a clump of cells, that this is all random, that we create our own meaning.

And look, we’ve run a 50 year experiment to see what happens when belief in God gets sucked out of America. We've gone from Billy Graham being voted the most beloved man in America to wherever ubiquitous moral relativism takes us…

To hell.

I know we were both shaken by Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

I have to admit something.

Just a few weeks ago I was saying negative things about Charlie Kirk. Now that he's passed, I feel deeply embarrassed about how I misunderstood him. Sure, there were things he said or did that I didn't agree with, but fundamentally what Charlie wanted was a society that put faith in God first—a society where you could raise a godly family.

I know you want that. I want that too. And it will take more of us speaking up about how impossible it feels today to do so to start changing that.

And while studies have shown that religious families exhibit better metrics of well-being, know that the journey you're on is not about finding a community or rules for life that just help you get on with your days.

The walk with Christ is a walk of diving deeper and deeper into truth—that reality has a different structure than what we were taught growing up. That you were designed for a purpose. That your life has cosmic significance. And that you're loved by the Creator of the universe who knows your name. And wants you to have eternal life.

These truths matter more than any news of any day.

Finally, I feel called to say that God didn't create you randomly. Every talent you have, every skill you've developed, every passion that drives you—these aren't accidents. They're part of your design.

And speaking of design—I have to smile when I think about your name. Christopher literally means "bearer of Christ" or "Christ-bearer" in Greek. No pressure, right? But seriously, it comes from Saint Christopher, who helped people cross dangerous rivers in the 3rd century.

Also, your Armenian heritage carries one of the oldest Christian traditions on Earth (Armenia was the first nation to officially adopt Christianity in 301 AD), and now here you are, discovering what it means to actually bear Christ in your heart. Sometimes God's sense of timing is almost too on the nose.

You have a calling, brother. Something specific that only you can do in the way God designed you to do it. The gifts He gave you aren't meant to be buried or used solely for personal gain. They're tools for a mission to shine a light on God's glory that you're just beginning to discover.

I'm so grateful you're taking these first steps. Our brotherhood means everything to me, and seeing you open to this journey makes me believe even more strongly that God is moving in powerful ways right now.

In these coming months and years (during what a lot of us call the Last Days), get ready to see signs, wonders, and miracles. Get ready to discover and tap into power that you didn't even know existed. And get ready to join a battle that's been raging since before time began.

Hit me up any time. I'm here for you every step of the way.

With love,

Gary
