Only Grace Will Save Us From The Omni-Crisis

I have been around a lot of people who talk about civilizational risk. Over the past decade the conversation has matured: poly-crisis, omni-crisis, cascading race dynamics, the Moloch trap. I have learned a lot from Daniel Schmachtenberger. Jordan Hall is a friend now. These thinkers have been naming this for a long time, and much of what they see is accurate.

But the conversation is still missing something. Something big enough that I have to say it plainly, because the people I respect in that space are still tiptoeing around it.

The omni-crisis is fundamentally an evil problem and an obedience problem. Coordination theory cannot reach it. Only God's grace will get us through.

What The AI Doom Conversation Gets Right

I recently watched Daniel Roher's The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist (2026). The film puts the AI-risk intelligentsia on camera, including Sam Altman, Dario Amodei, and Demis Hassabis, and Roher narrates it through the lens of becoming a father. The doomers. The optimists. The self-described apocaloptimists. Smart people. Genuine concern. Good data.

They are right about the threat surface:

  • Pathological race dynamics between nation-states and between labs inside those nation-states.
  • Dangerously powerful AI being developed on timelines far too fast for any existing governance structure.
  • The technology already being applied to warfare, surveillance, and mass population operations.
  • The very real possibility of mass death if nothing changes.

These are not exaggerations. They are observations. I agree with them.

What It Gets Catastrophically Wrong

Here is what was noticeably vacant from the conversation in the film, and from nearly every secular civilizational-risk conversation I have ever been in:

God.

The Most High God. Creator of everything. The Father who gave His only begotten Son for humanity's salvation. The one whose Holy Spirit is active in the world right now, and against whom real, personal, spiritual evil is at war. The only ontology powerful enough to explain what is actually happening, and the only authority capable of intervening at the scale the moment requires.

The conversation in the film was at the level of maturity of web3 discourse around coordination problems. "We just need to coordinate better." "We just need a few more AI safety researchers." "We just need the right incentive design."

No. That is a misdirection. The real problem is much worse, and therefore the real solution is much more powerful.

The Coordination Lie

If this were a coordination problem, smart people with good intentions would solve it. We have had fifty years of smart people with good intentions trying to solve nuclear proliferation, biowarfare, inequality, and environmental collapse. The coordination conversation has been happening the entire time. It has not worked.

Why? Because coordination theory assumes every actor at the table is, in principle, coordinatable. It assumes disagreement is about information, or incentives, or perspective.

But Scripture tells us something the secular frame cannot metabolize: some actors are not coordinatable because they are not operating from a coordinatable source. They are hosts of something else. They have given ground to satanic influence, and their behavior is not a function of rational self-interest. It is a function of spiritual allegiance.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." — Ephesians 6:12

When JD Vance fails to secure a ceasefire, when a treaty falls apart at the last minute, when a negotiation that everyone at the table claims to want mysteriously gets blocked, the secular mind reaches for game theory. Scripture reaches for something older and more accurate. Some of the blockers are blocked by spiritual allegiance, and no amount of incentive redesign will move them.

Jesus named this directly. In Revelation, He speaks of a "synagogue of Satan": those which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie (Revelation 2:9, 3:9). The scriptural frame is precise. It is not an ethnic statement. It is the opposite. It names a faction that claims holy identity while serving the adversary, a counterfeit assembly that uses the vocabulary of covenant while operating against God's purposes. That pattern did not end with the first century. It is the same pattern that shows up wherever institutions claim to be the righteous ones while blocking what God wants to move. Whenever coordination mysteriously fails because a specific, persistent faction wants it to fail, you are not looking at a game-theoretic equilibrium. You are looking at an updated instance of the same thing John saw.

Moloch Is Not Impersonal

The web3 and rationalist communities adopted Moloch as a metaphor. They defined Moloch as an emergent dynamic: the impersonal god of bad equilibria, coordination failure, the thing that makes us all sacrifice what we love to a race to the bottom.

That framing is partially true and dangerously incomplete.

Moloch in Scripture is not an emergent abstraction. Moloch is a demon. A spirit that demanded child sacrifice and received it. A personal force of destruction that humans willingly served and still serve today under other names and in other forms.

When we rebrand Moloch as a game-theoretic abstraction, we do exactly what the enemy wants: we flatter ourselves that the problem is structural, never moral, never spiritual, never something that requires repentance. We keep the vocabulary of apocalypse and strip out the only one who can stop it.

See: Recognize and Resist Sinfrastructure for how evil encodes itself into systems and what to do about it.

The Biblical Precedent That Everyone Forgets

Civilizations have been ended before. God ended them.

Sodom and Gomorrah fell because they were wholly given over to disobedience, perversion, and contempt for the divine order. The warning signal had been issued. They ignored it. The judgment came.

The flood came for the same reason. The tower of Babel was scattered for the same reason. Nineveh was spared only because the entire city repented, from the king down to the animals, when Jonah finally delivered the message God sent him with.

"The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked." — Nahum 1:3

The pattern throughout Scripture is unambiguous. God ends civilizations that persist in disobedience. God spares civilizations that repent. And in the in-between, God spares obedient families inside the condemned city, like Lot's household in Sodom or Rahab's household in Jericho. The rest burns.

We are not exempt from this pattern. The idea that modern civilization has somehow graduated out of divine judgment is the single most arrogant assumption of the secular age. We have not graduated. We have just gotten louder about our disobedience and more sophisticated in our rationalizations.

What The Opposite Of Obedience Looks Like

I think about this in the same grammar I use for Favormaxxing. If favormaxxing is the positive program (relentless optimization for divine alignment, which causes God's favor to compound), the opposite program is also legible.

The opposition mode is disobedience-maxxing. Relentless optimization against God's design, which causes spiritual covering to collapse and demonic footholds to compound.

Chaos-maxxing. Deliberately amplifying entropy, confusion, and noise because order implies a Lawgiver and a Lawgiver implies accountability.

Truth-minning. Reducing the amount of truth in circulation to the lowest possible floor. Replacing it with narratives that are load-bearing for whoever is paying.

Deception-maxxing. Professionalizing the craft of lying. Engineering it into platforms, into screens, into elections, into news cycles, into AI models that inherit the spiritual blindness of their trainers.

When you look at the leadership of many of the most powerful institutions on earth, including the frontier AI labs, you are looking at disobedience-maxxers, chaos-maxxers, truth-minners, and deception-maxxers wearing the costume of reasonable technocrats. Some of them know what they are doing. Most of them, I suspect, do not fully know. Some have taken money they should not have taken and now serve masters they did not consciously choose. Some have been flattered into a compromised position. Some are simply products of a culture that has been spiritually malforming them since birth.

See: Favormaxxing for the positive version of this program. See: Why You Should Seek Truth Above Everything for why truth-minning is the root disease.

Grace Is Muscular, Specific, And Load-Bearing

Here is the pivot. When I say only grace will save us, hear me clearly. Grace in Scripture is muscular, specific, and conditional on posture. It has nothing to do with "be nice and hope for the best."

Grace shows up for the obedient. Grace shows up for the humble. Grace shows up for the repentant. Grace shows up for the families that kept the covenant while their city was worshiping other gods. Grace shows up for Noah. Grace shows up for Lot. Grace shows up for Rahab. Grace does not show up uniformly for everyone in the blast radius. That is the uncomfortable truth the secular omni-crisis conversation cannot speak.

The only reason any city still standing will remain standing is the presence of obedient families inside it. That is the biblical pattern. The obedient are the reason the judgment is delayed. The obedient are the reason there is still a margin. The obedient are, functionally, the civilization's spiritual infrastructure, even when they are invisible to the secular data.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." — 2 Chronicles 7:14

That verse is a protocol. The hinge of civilizational survival is posture, and posture is precisely what policy cannot engineer.

Implications For Anyone Working On AI Risk

If you are working on AI safety, technical alignment, governance, policy, or any adjacent domain, I want to say this as a brother. The work matters. Keep doing it. Understand also that your work is downstream of a more fundamental battle.

If satanic evil is real, technical alignment alone will never be sufficient. You can build the best alignment architecture imaginable and it will still be deployed by people who are not themselves aligned, whose agency is partially owned by something they cannot see. The bottleneck is the spiritual state of the actors downstream of your work.

If obedience is the key to divine favor, the best thing you can personally do for civilizational resilience is become someone God spares. Do this priestly, not selfishly. Your obedience adds to the margin. Your family adds to the margin. Your community of obedient believers adds to the margin. This is strategic, load-bearing civilizational work. Obedient families are the ark.

If God's grace is the only thing that gets us through, pray like it. The amount of prayer happening around the AI question right now is wildly insufficient relative to the stakes. Most of the world's smartest AI-risk thinkers pray less than the average grandmother in rural Alabama, and her prayers are doing more work for civilization than any governance white paper.

See: Obedience Is Everything for why obedience is the master key. See: Why The Obedient Have Nothing To Fear From AI for why supernatural connection outperforms silicon. See: The Genesis Layer for why discernment is the bottleneck, not execution.

What I Am Actually Saying

I am saying secular AI-risk discourse is necessary but not sufficient, because it is operating with an incomplete ontology. The Moloch it describes is personal. The competitors it analyzes include some who are not fully self-owned. The entropy it worries about includes active, spiritual, directed evil. And the coordination failures it tries to engineer around are downstream of a disobedience crisis that engineering cannot reach.

I am saying the Bible already described this moment, and the answer it gives has not changed: repent, return, obey, pray, and God will do what governance cannot.

I am saying grace is the most practical, most strategic, most load-bearing variable on the board. It is available to anyone who stops trying to be the hero and starts trying to be faithful.

If the city is going to be spared, it will be because enough obedient families are still in it.

Be one of those families.

"Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain." — Psalm 127:1
